Orders are now closed for the week! thank you ♡
if you'd still like to pick up some fresh loaves or treats this week, please drop me a message or come by the bakery this Saturday, 12/09 between 10-1pm for our first open coffee morning!
The order window is open every week between Saturday morning and Tuesday noon. During this time, you can place an order for fresh loaves and treats to be picked up or dropped off on Thursday or Friday. Orders can be placed via this website: https://bakesy.shop/b/loaf-actually-1
Why is there a pre-order system, and why can’t I just come by to buy bread?
There are a number of reasons for this. Loaf Actually operates out of a very small studio space and does not have a conventional bakery shop front from where I could openly display and sell my products. Furthermore, baking for pre-orders reduces waste and makes sure that my bakery is more sustainable. It allows me to keep smaller volumes of stock and also ensures that prices are more financially affordable for my customers. Finally, while at other bakeries you may never know what stock is left until you turn up, with us you will always be guaranteed a loaf with literally your name on it when you come to collect.
What if I miss the order window for the week?
Weekly pre-orders close on Tuesday at 12pm to allow me time to start prepping my ingredients for the week. If you miss the timeslot, you’re welcome to drop me a text to check about additional orders. Whilst I can’t guarantee anything, I will always try to fit you in.
Is there a reminder for the weekly order window?
Yes, there is. You can opt in to receive one weekly reminder text on Mondays before orders close for the week. Drop me a text or send me an email to be added to the reminder list.
Do you accept cash on collection, or do I have to pay online?
If this is your first time ordering, I ask that you pay online via the secure payment link sent in your confirmation email. For repeat customers, I am happy to take cash or card payments upon collection.
Can I set up a standing order or a monthly subscription so I don’t have to keep ordering every week?
Not just yet, but it is something I am looking into. It helps me if you let me know if that is something you’re interested in. The more people are keen, the sooner I will get this set up.
Can I amend my order after I’ve paid?
If you need to change your order, please drop me an email or text before Tuesday 12pm. After that, I will not be able to take changes. Thank you for your understanding.
What is your refund policy?
If you cancel your order before Tuesday 12pm, I am happy to give you a full refund or transfer your payment as credit towards a future order. After Tuesday 12pm, refunds cannot be accepted as I will have started prepping ingredients for the weekly orders.
Can someone else collect my order on my behalf?
Absolutely! Just make sure they know the name the order was placed under and which day (Thursday or Friday) you selected at checkout.
Is there parking available near RPM for quick collection?
Honestly, parking can be difficult on Bearwood High Street. There are free short stay parking bays on Bearwood Rd near RPM, as well as around the corner on Sandon Rd. There also is free on-road parking in several residential roads nearby, and there is an Aldi car park up the road a couple of minutes walk away. All of these can be limited, but our space is also accessible on public transport via several bus routes.
What are the exact hours I can come to pick up my bread?
Generally, collection is Thursdays and Fridays between 4-6pm each day. If this time doesn’t work for you, please drop me a message and we can make adjustments. Some days, I may be finished baking and packaging earlier and I’ll text you about early pickups. You’ll receive a pick-up reminder via text on the day.
What happens if I’m running late for collection?
Please text me as soon as you know you’re running late or won’t be able to make it during the pickup slot. Usually, we are able to find an alternative!
Is the collection space accessible?
Unfortunately not. There are multiple sets of stairs leading up to the collection shelf for your order. However, if you are unable to come up to collect your bread (because of a wheelchair, pram, difficulty walking, have your dog with you or any other reason), please let the guys in the shop know and someone will happily bring your order down for you. You can also drop me a text beforehand to ensure there is no difficulty during your pickup.
For Harborne/Queens Park deliveries, do I need to be home?
No, you don’t, but in this case, please leave a note at checkout specifying a safe, dry place (like a porch or with a specific neighbour) where I can leave safely leave your order.
Can I request a specific delivery time slot for my Thursday home delivery?
No, that is not possible at the moment. Usually, I do my drop-offs between 6-7pm.
What flour do you use?
For all my loaves and treats, I exclusively use organic flour by Shipton Mill, based in Gloucestershire. I have liked working with their flour for many years as they use regenerative techniques and provide a broad range of different types of great quality flours and blends.
Are you loaves and treats suitable for vegan/vegetarians?
All the products currently on the menu are vegetarian. Additionally, all my loaves are vegan-friendly. For most of my sweet treats, I can make them vegan upon request (no extra charge). Have a look at the specific product descriptions, and drop me an email if you have a request for a vegan option.
Do you use any artificial additives, dough conditioners, or preservatives?
No. All my loaves and rolls are naturally leavened with sourdough and fermented slowly, meaning the base is always simply flour, water and salt. Some products will have additional ingredients such as butter, oil, seeds, fruit, chocolate, etc. My cookies are the only item using baking powder and baking soda as additional raising agents. A detailed list of ingredients and allergen information is displayed with every product on the order website.
How should I store my bread?
How to best store sourdough bread is a bit of a contested debate 🙂Here’s my take. I like to store my bread in a reusable plastic zip bag, as it keeps it from drying out. My customers have shared with me that the bags that come with your order are very suitable, too. However, when in plastic, bread can get mouldy if stored for a week or more. Others prefer (washable) linen/cloth bread bags, that are breathable and can dry the bread out a little bit, but keep it pretty fresh. Paper bags will dry the bread out the fastest but can work better for enriched breads, like focaccia.
Do you offer any bread-making/sourdough classes or workshops?
Not at the moment, but I would love to explore this in the future. Let me know if this is something you’d be interested in.
Can I freeze the bread, and what is the best way to defrost/refresh it?
Yes, definitely. I recommend slicing the whole loaf first, then pop it in a freezer safe bag. You can then take out individual slices and pop them into the toaster as and when needed.
Can I buy a gift voucher for a friend or family member?
Yes, definitely. Drop me a text or an email, and I can arrange this for you.
Are you open to wholesale inquiries from local cafes or restaurants?
Yes, for sure. Drop me a text or email and let’s explore this.
I am hosting a dinner party / family BBQ / friends' picnic / ... Can I submit a bulk order for loaves, burger buns, or treats?
Absolutely - I would love to help cater your party or picnic for friends and family. Drop me a text or email, ideally a few weeks in advance so we can discuss what you have in mind. I'd be happy to get you a discount on your order.
How can I give feedback or review my bakes?
I love hearing from you about how you liked your loaf and treats. If you’d like to review your order publicly, I would love it if you left a review on my order website (https://bakesy.shop/b/loaf-actually-1/getreviews) or on Google (https://g.page/r/CWYSGVuzC4L1EBM/review). I also appreciate anyone sharing any thoughts or photos on Instagram (@loaf.actuallyy) Thank you!
What if I didn't like my order? What is your complaint process?
I really hope you enjoy your bread and treats, and I definitely want to hear from you if something isn't right. As with any handcrafted product, no two loaves look exactly the same. Sourdough is a live culture and naturally shifts with daily changes in weather and temperature. I kindly ask that you keep this in mind when assessing your order. That being said, if your loaf genuinely wasn't as expected and/or you’re unhappy with your order for another reason, please reach out via email or text within 48 hours so I can make it up to you!
