Artisan Sourdough Bread Class
Artisan Sourdough Bread Class

Elevate your baking with a hands on class that will teach you how to create a basic loaf of artisan sourdough bread! Class will last 2 to 2 1/2 hours, and will cover mixing dough, stretch and folds, coil folds, bulk fermenting, shaping, cold retard, scoring, baking and taking care of your starter. Each step is not complicated, and soon you’ll be blessing your family with healthful, scrumptious bread!

Each participant will leave with a container that serves as a banneton, a bench scraper, a written recipe and instructions, plus a free loaf of dough for you to complete at home and a free jar of proven sourdough starter! We’ll also be sampling a loaf that bakes during the class. Participants will also have your own mentor as I will be available to answer your baking questions as you work on your own bread at home. We also have our own FB page for alumni where you can share your bakes, recipes and ask questions!

Enjoy some of my Tiny Treats during class. Selections may include scones, cookies, fudge, or other treats!

Available public classes are as follows: Friday, August 15 at 10am in Monument. This class only has three spots with stools, but can fit up to 8 if you don’t mind standing. (All seats are full, but standing spots are available. You can sit at a table nearby when you need to sit).

If you select In Person Class, I will invoice you for half the price up front, the other half will be due at class. Just select the date that corresponds to the class you want to take.

Family member discount - first person full price, each additional family member gets a $10 discount. Let me know in the comments so I can give you the discount when I send my invoice. Please sign family members up together to get the discount.

Well behaved children aged 10-15 are welcome to sign up with an adult who is also taking the class. 16 and up are welcome without an adult.

Want to take a class for half price? I’m looking for people to host classes in the Colorado Springs area. You don’t need a large kitchen, just a table or island that will fit 6-8 bakers. Contact me if you’re interested! Susan 719-396-1635. There is also the option to have a private class in your home. For that there is a minimum of 4 students and no discount.

If you’re struggling financially and would like a partial scholarship, message me. I know what it’s like and don’t want finances to get in the way of learning to make great, healthy bread!

Reviews from previous students:

Game Changer!

Kim

“After several months of working with sourdough bread baking, and having frustrating inconsistent results - this class changed everything. It helped so much. Additionally, just being able to ask questions, get hands on, super helpful handouts, great teaching. We went home having learned so much, and with great goodies!”

Great Sourdough Class

Debbie

“Even though I’ve been baking sourdough for a few months now, I was ‘self taught’ via YouTube and other social media methods, there is nothing like an on hands class. I throughly enjoyed and learned quite a bit about sourdough in Susan’s class taught on 24-May-2025 at Aspen Kitchens in the University Village Shopping Center. Susan is very knowledgeable and was able to help me understand what I could be doing differently to achieve better results. A definite bonus was the ability to sample a fresh baked loaf with wonderful olive oil and balsamic vinegar samples provided by Aspen Kitchens. Also a shout out to Aspen Kitchens, their shop is a gem and I would encourage you to stop in and peruse all of the fun and wonderful kitchen items they have.”

Introductory Artisan Sourdough Class
Introductory Artisan Sourdough Class

This is a larger group class where you will receive a jar of free starter and an instruction booklet. We will go over all the basic steps of taking care of your starter, mixing, bulk fermenting, shaping, scoring and baking, ending with a taste of bread we just baked! We’ll also have a drawing for a cute sourdough apron!

Well behaved children aged 10-15 are welcome to sign up with a responsible adult. Students 16 years and older are welcome without an adult.

This class is meant to help you decide if you want to go all in with sourdough or not, or if you just want a fun class with a friend without too much invested. If you already know you’re committed to learning sourdough, the main class would probably suit you better. In that class we will do all the same things, but will add more hands on time, scoring and shaping loaves, talk more about using different grains and more of the science behind getting a great loaf of bread! You will also get some inexpensive sourdough tools, a loaf of dough to bake at home, a more extensive instruction booklet, and access to my private Facebook group where we share recipes, pics of our bakes, and get help with our process. You can always take the more advanced class after getting the basics down with this introductory class!

Next class is scheduled for Monday, August 25 at 6:30 in Falcon. When you add this class to your cart, choose Aug 25.

Let me know if you have a group who would like to schedule an introductory class! Moms’ groups, church groups, homeschool groups, neighborhood rec centers, etc.

Artisan Sourdough Batard
Artisan Sourdough Batard

Large oval delectable artisan sourdough bread! Soft and fluffy on the inside, crusty on the outside.

If you’d like special scoring, comment “leaves”, or “trees,” in the notes section. For these loaves there is extra flour on the outside, so don’t request these patterns if you are sensitive to gluten. Or request rice flour on the outside.
