How should I store my bread?
To store your sourdough bread, keep it in a reusable plastic bag on the counter at room temperature, where it should last for 4-5 days.
Sourdough naturally lasts longer than many other breads because the acids produced during fermentation act as natural preservatives, helping to inhibit mold growth.
Please don't refrigerate!
Can I freeze sourdough bread?
Yes!
Here’s the trick: slice the loaf first, then lay the slices flat on a baking sheet to freeze them. Once they're frozen solid, you can toss them all into a freezer bag or container for up to 3 months, and they won't stick together.
Just take a slice out as needed and pop it right in the toaster!
My bread is a day or two old and feels a bit firm. How can I refresh it to make it crusty and soft again?
This is our favorite way to bring a loaf back to life! It works best for whole or half loaves.
Preheat: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Misting: Briefly run the crust of the bread under a running tap or mist it generously with water from a spray bottle. You want the crust to be damp but not completely soaked.
Bake: Place the damp loaf directly on the oven rack.
Refresh: Bake for 5 to 8 minutes. This turns the water into steam, rehydrating the inside (the "crumb") and making the outside perfectly crisp again.
Serve: Let it cool for a minute or two before slicing. It will be almost as good as new!
