Talofa lava! I am Iris Penitusi-Dela Cruz, owner of Vay's Kookie Kona. My journey began at my daughter Nevaeh's (Vay) first birthday party in January 2024, where I made cookies that our guests loved. This inspired the creation of Vay's Kookie Kona.
I am of Samoan descent from the U.S. territory of American Samoa and recently moved to Yorktown, Virginia, USA. As a 21-year-old stay-at-home mom, I wanted to support my daughter while my husband was away for military training. Baking became my passion, and in February 2024, we launched our cookie sales for Valentine's Day, which were a success! We now have an expanded menu and a growing customer base and we are incredibly grateful for the support we've received.
As I continue to balance my role as a stay-at-home mom and full-time student, I am committed to expanding Vay's Kookie Kona through both shipping and in-person services on the mainland. My goal is to establish a professional presence that not only showcases my passion for baking, but also inspires other young mothers to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
