How did you get started with decorating sugar cookies?
It all started as a way to combine my love for baking with my creative side! What began as a fun experiment in the kitchen quickly turned into a dedicated hobby. I love the challenge of taking a simple cookie and turning it into a tiny, edible piece of art for the people I care about.
How long does it actually take to make a set of cookies?
A lot longer than you might think! Because I use royal icing, the process happens in stages. Between mixing the dough, cutting and baking the shapes, prepping various icing consistencies, and allowing layers to dry completely (which can take up to 24 hours), a single set usually spans over 3 to 5 days.
Do you design your own cookie cutters?
Yes! One of my favorite parts of this hobby is using 3D printing technology to bring new ideas to life. If I have a specific vision that I can’t find a tool for, I’ll head to my computer to design and print a custom cutter myself. It adds a really unique, personal touch to the sets I create.
Where do you get your creative inspiration?
I’m constantly inspired by current trends on social media, beautiful stationery, or even party themes. Sometimes a specific color palette or a fun pattern is all it takes to spark an idea for a full set.
What is the most difficult part of the decorating process?
Patience is definitely the biggest challenge! Waiting for the "flood" layer of icing to dry before adding fine details is essential to keep the colors from bleeding and to ensure the lines stay crisp and professional-looking.
Do you have a favorite theme or style to work on?
I love anything that allows for high-contrast colors and clean lines. Whether it’s a whimsical floral set or a themed celebration for a family milestone, I enjoy the making different shapes feel like they belong together in one collection.
