Cake serving size can vary based on who is in charge of cutting the cake and it also depends on the shape and size of it.

Cakes are sliced in 1 1/2 to 2 inches in size.

The taller and the wider your cake is in inches the more slices you will have. If you are serving other desserts along with your cake then your guests will probably not eat much cake. This will allow you to order a small cake.
