Zephyr is a delightful, airy confection that will charm your taste buds. Originating from Eastern Europe, it’s a soft, marshmallow-like treat made from natural fruit puree, sugar, and egg whites, gently whipped into a light and fluffy texture. Often compared to a cross between a marshmallow and meringue, zephyr is unique for its melt-in-your-mouth sensation and delicate sweetness.
Unlike heavy candies, zephyr feels light and satisfying, making it a perfect addition to any special occasion or gift. At Bloom & Bite, we’ve taken this beloved treat to the next level, crafting it into beautifully shaped flowers that are as stunning to look at as they are delicious to eat.
What is zephyr made from?
Zephyr is made from whipped egg whites, real berry purée, sugar and agar (a natural plant-based setting agent). These simple ingredients create its light, airy, marshmallow-like texture.
Are zephyr flowers the same as cupcakes with buttercream?
No. They are not cupcakes and there is no buttercream frosting. Zephyr is a whipped confection similar in texture to marshmallow.
Is zephyr hard like meringue?
No. Zephyr is soft and airy with a delicate, marshmallow-like texture. Unlike meringue, it isn’t crunchy or hard — it’s light and gently melts in your mouth.
What do zephyr flowers taste like?
They have a light berry flavour (or your flavour options), with a soft texture.
Are zephyr flowers very sweet?
Zephyr flowers are sweet, but in a much lighter and more delicate way than traditional cakes or buttercream desserts. Because zephyr is made from whipped egg whites, berry purée, sugar and agar, the texture is airy and soft — not dense or heavy.
Unlike buttercream, which is rich, creamy and often quite sugary, zephyr has a gentle sweetness balanced with natural berry flavour. It doesn’t leave that thick, buttery coating on your palate. And compared to cake, which can feel filling and substantial, zephyr feels light and cloud-like — satisfying without being overwhelming.
Most customers describe it as pleasantly sweet rather than intensely sugary.
