I am a full time Respiratory Therapist by day and a sourdough bread dealer by night. Growing up my mom was a nurse so I spent a lot of time with my Granny. I remember how she made the most delicious food from scratch, fresh fruits and vegetables from her garden. I loved helping her whenever I could. I feel that is where my passion to bake was born. I’ll never forget waking up on my 16th birthday to the unfortunate news of her passing. All these years later I still love to bake, especially from scratch. I find myself baking for any occasions I can. Baking is near and dear to my heart. It’s as if it’s a way of carrying on the tradition and memory of Granny. While sourdough bread started as a hobby, (aka science project) it quickly became a passion of mine. Blondie’s Sourdough Co. was born! I knew I wanted to share not only my love for baking but this delicious gut friendly bread option with my community . I myself have GI issues and foods on the market today have so many unhealthy and unfriendly additives, I often suffer from. I know I can’t be the only one. Homemade sourdough can be a bit more expensive than going to a local grocery . However, I guarantee if you flip that package over that “sourdough” has more than just 3 ingredients. This is how they are able to do mass production. Making authentic sourdough is a 2 day process and it’s a labor of love. Every step of the sourdough journey is equally as important as the next. My bread has 3 authentic ingredients flour, water, and salt (and lots of love) all come together to make the most delicious bread you’ll ever have. The process involves Autolyse, bulk fermentation, stretching and folding, lamination, shape and build tension, proofing and finally the fun part score (design) then bake. Sourdough is a beautiful process of crafting each and every loaf. It’s one I find joy in, one loaf at a time.
Everything I make is with Sourdough!
Sourdough bread has many health benefits, including:
Digestion
The lactic acid produced by the bacteria in sourdough helps pre-digest starches, which can reduce bloating and discomfort.
Gut health
The fiber and polyphenols in sourdough feed gut microbes.
Fewer preservatives
Sourdough's natural acidity and fermentation process reduce the need for chemical additives.
Nutrient-dense
Sourdough contains healthy carbs, protein, fiber, iron, and vitamins like folic acid.
Blood sugar management
Sourdough has a lower glycemic index than white bread, so it doesn't increase blood sugar levels as quickly.
Mineral absorption
The fermentation process neutralizes phytic acid, which makes minerals more available for the body to absorb.
Heart health
The fiber, potassium, phosphorus, and sodium in sourdough support a heart-healthy diet.
Antioxidants
The lactic acid bacteria in sourdough increases the amount of antioxidants, which protect cells from damage that can cause disease.
Orders placed by 5 pm Monday will be available Thursday. I do make every order fresh and it takes 2 days to make a loaf of sourdough.
