Our story:

This is the story of this cookie company, 6 friends and their journey of love, support, and ALS.

2017….. through a Facebook message invitation to a small venue concert featuring one of my favorite bands I was reconnected to a group of old aquaintances. Little did I know that this invitation would be the beginning of a beautiful circle, a bond, a sisterhood, that had never been rivaled in my life. I dare say that I doubt that many have been blessed by such a thing in their own lifetimes.

Over the next several years we were inseparable. We talked daily. Spent every weekend together, took trips, celebrated birthdays, mended heartbreaks, worked as moving crew & flight pick up, attended too many concerts to count, hundreds of dinners, floated in the inflatable pool with beers in hand and music…. oh, the ever-present music blaring in the car, on the patio, at the concerts……. the memories.

And all documented with photographs & post on social media. We would often get messages from other women commenting that they wished they had a circle like that.

We are teachers, nurses and caregivers by trade.

In early 2023 one of our circle was diagnosed with ALS…. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. A fatal neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement and breathing. There is no cure and the prognosis is 3-5 years.

Sherry is the only person I’ve ever met that had an actual bucket list. Not because she was diagnosed with a terminal disease, she had the bucket list long before she had ever heard of ALS.

She is just one of those adventurous, free spirits. Not only did she have the list, but she tackled it. She often took trips, sometimes with people, sometimes alone, and even sometimes with her loyal canine companion, Hank.

Sherry is a nurse, she tackled CrossFit, hiked many a trail, visited most national parks, swam in famous watering holes and camped in spots that most of us have only seen in magazines. In 2020 during the Covid shut down she was trapped in Guatemala for two weeks on a trip she had taken to hike a volcano and camp on it. I fed my first homeless person because of Sherry. On our first girls’ trips, to the city of New Orleans. Our idea of fun was hitting the Pirate Bar. Sherry was busy looking for the hungry people on the streets to give her left-over dinner to. There is no stray animal, no hurting person, no bad situation she would pass without trying to help.

ALS steals the ability to function quickly, and for someone so vital and adventurous this has been a difficult journey. And yet, Sherry is still one of the groups best encouragers and biggest supporters.

When I decided to start Rockin’ Dough, Sherry and the girls were instrumental in the love and support it took to kick start the endeavor. I knew that I wanted it to be closely tied to what we had. The thing that really represented us and the times we had, and were having in our lives, were directly related to music……and so we sat together and developed the concept… and as if it were meant to be….Sherry came up with the name Rockin’ Dough.

Today we are on this journey with our sister. Our lives are changed but we are present. Our mission now is to walk each other home and to bring awareness to this terrible disease, this thief called ALS.
